Outstanding scholar-athlete on the EMU baseball team... Turned in a career 17-9 record with a 2.09 ERA as a right-handed pitcher... Co-captain of the 1975 team... Helped lead the 1975 team to the Mid-American Conference and Mid-East Regional championships along with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA College World Series... Two-time Academic All-America second-team selection... Also named to the MAC All-Academic team in 1974 and 1975... Selected EMU's Most Valuable Pitcher in 1974 after posting a 7-3 record with a 1.74 ERA and three MAC shutout... Graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1975 and went on to earn a master's degree at Purdue University in 1978... Signed a professional baseball contract with the Detroit Tigers in 1975 and went 13-7 during his minor league career... Pitched on the 1976 Montgomery (Ala.) team with teammates Jack Morris, Lance Parrish, Alan Trammell, Steve Kemp, Dave Rozema, Tom Brookens, Dave Tobik, and Glenn Gulliver... Fist EMU recipient of an NCAA postgraduate academic scholarship... Also Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
