Earned letters in track and basketball... Captain of the 1948 track team... Tied the Waterman Gym record at Michigan for the 440-yard dash in the 1942-43 indoor season... Left college in 1943 to enlist in the United States Air Force... While in the military he completed in the Allied Olympic Games in Nuremberg, Germany and was titled third in the 440-yard dash and anchored the winning mile relay team... Finished second in the 440-yard dash at the Mediterranean Theater championships in Rome... Returned to EMU and finished his degree in 1948... Went on to coach at Flint Northern High School where his team won three Class A state track championships... His prep track squad won 29-30 dual meet and five regional titles... Earned his master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1950 and his PH.D from Michigan State University in 1957... Retired in 1989 as a University of Michigan professor.
