Was a high jumper and pole vaulter on the track team...Won numerous awards as a collegiate AAU competitor, including a runner-up finish in the National AAU decathlon competition...Coached track and cross country at Bad Axe and Ann Arbor High Schools...Finished second in the nation in the decathlon at the 1938 National AAU Championships...Served as president of Sigma Delta Psi during his undergraduate days...Won the national Sigma Delta Psi championship in 1938, competing in 12 events and winning the title from a field representing 47 universities...Went on to set many national Masters' age-group track and swimming records, including two world records and six American marks after retiring...Passed away Nov. 14, 1995.
