Earned four letters as an outstanding trackman for EMU from 1976-79... Was an NCAA Division I All-American five times, twice in the 400-meter dash (1978 and 1979), once in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1979), once in the 600-yard dash (1979) and once as a member of the Distance Medley relay team (1976). Was the Central Collegiate Conference (CCC) Champion in the 110-meter high hurdles (1979) and the 400-intermediate hurdles (1979) and also ran on the winning 400-meter relay team (1979)... Mid-American Conference champion in the 110-meter hurdles in 1978 and 1979, the 400-meter hurdles in 1979 and also ran on the winning 400-meter relay team in 1979... Voted EMU's Athlete of the Year in 1978 in poll by the student body... Co-captain of the 1979 track team... Qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1980... Finished fourth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at the National Sports Festival in 1979 and also anchored the second-place mile relay team at the meet.
