Has been part of the EMU swimming program as both an athlete and coach...Earned varsity swimming letters from 1971-73 and swam on EMU teams that won the NAIA National Championship in 1969-70 and 1970-71 and also captured the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1971-72...Graduated with a double major, in mathematics and biology, and spent the 1975-76 season as an assistant coach to EMU head men's swimming coach Mike Jones...Went on to coach high school at Shaker Heights (Ohio) from 1976-82 and at Upper Arlington (Ohio) from 1982-88 where his teams won three consecutive state titles...Served as the president of the Ohio High School Swimming Coaches Association...Was named to the Ohio High School Swimming Coaches Hall of Fame...Returned to EMU in 1988 and took over as head coach of the men's swimming team in 1988-89 for the retired Mike Jones...In 18 years as head coach of the EMU men's team he has led his teams to 15 Mid-American Conference championships...Has been named MAC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year five times...Added the duties as head coach of the EMU women's swimming team in 2004-05 and led the women's squad to its first-ever MAC swimming title in 2005-06...Earned MAC Women's Swimming Coach of the Year in both 2004-05 and 2005-06.
